JITC is one of the key organizational elements of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and serves as DISA's developmental and operational test organization. As designated by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, JITC is also the authority that certifies that Department of Defense (DoD) Information Technology (IT) and National Security Systems (NSS) meet interoperability requirements for joint military operations.

FY 2007 Highlights
In FY 2007, the JITC Washington Operations experienced 20% growth and positioned themselves as a national asset and a key provider of essential services in the region and beyond.

JITC continued to provide outstanding support to the armed forces worldwide through the testing and analysis of joint systems such as the Combined Enterprise Regional Information Exchange System (CENTRIXS), the Defense Information Systems Network - Optical Transport Network (DISN-OTN), Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES), the Defense Message System (DMS), and the Global Combat Support System (GCSS). This fiscal year, JITC expanded their Indian Head laboratories to support the testing of many new technologies that are essential to the warfighters in the field.

The Joint Information Assurance Lab (JIAL) allows JITC's Information Assurance (IA) team to conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, commercial product testing, Code Assessment and Vulnerability Analysis (CAVA), and security tool assessments. In FY 2007, the JITC IA team also conducted IA assessments during Combatant Commander Exercises. JITC used JIAL assets to pre-stage Combatant Commander exercise scenarios and to validate exercise results.

The JITC Intelligence Laboratory (JIL) was used to evaluate the Department of Defense Intelligence Information System (DoDIIS). JITC conducted interoperability tests and assessments of over 50 DODIIS systems this year. In support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), JITC used JIL assets to perform tests of systems such as the Rapid Response System (RRS) and the Central Locator System (CLS). JITC also made preparations to evaluate FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).

To further enhance their current testing infrastructure, JITC expanded their Advanced Technology Testbed (ATT). Covering over 4000 square feet, the ATT allows JITC to mitigate the risk of introducing new technology within the GIG.

JITC has established network connectivity to DISN⁄LES, DREN, and CFBLNet from the Indian Head facility. This connectivity provides links to other DoD and joint test sites for improving the interoperability of systems through distributed testing and evaluation in a replicated battlefield environment.

The Command Test Center (CTC), covering more than 1,500 square feet, provides an interactive environment for distributed test events and the conduct of meetings, video teleconferences, multimedia presentations, training sessions and virtual tours. This year, the CTC was used to host over 500 high-level visitors.

Testing areas of expertise have expanded to include business & logistics systems, enterprise architectures, and medical systems. As a result, the JITC Washington Operations projects continued future growth as they assist in streamlining the T&E process throughout the DoD.

In support of Charles County, JITC also continued to support charitable organizations and programs such as ‘‘Habitat for Humanity” and ‘‘Adopt a School” as they maintain a close relationship with the local community.
