Army Career andAlumni Program
The Fort Myer Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) is in Fort Myer’s Building 230 and helps transitioningmilitary personnel, their family members and Department of Army civilian employees with a variety of generaltransition assistance courses andseminars. Services offered includelearning to compose a resume, networking and interviewing skills, how to do job market research and market your skills. Call or come in to register toparticipate in any or all programs. Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention
Army Community Service The ACS Center is designed to assist commanders in educating military personnel in matters pertaining to personal and family wellness. All active duty Soldiers, military ID card holders (family members, retirees), DoD civilian employees and active duty members of the Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve and their family members, surviving family members of military personnel who died while on active duty, and family members of POW or MIA personnel are eligible to receive ACS assistance. The chaplains, chaplain assistants and other members of the religiousministry teams within the Fort Myer Military Community provide a wide range of services at each installation. Chaplain programs include weekday and weekend worship, Sunday school, adult religious education and pastoral counseling by chaplains. Child and Youth Services have options for meeting child care needs. Child development centers provideeducational programs to enhance andsupport children’s physical, social,emotional and intellectual development. The FMMC CYS provides full-day developmentally appropriate programs for children 6 weeks to 5 years old. It is provided Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to6:30 p.m. Hourly care is designed to provide intermittent, short-term care for children 6 weeks to 4 years old. Education Programs include basic skills math, English and reading programs; college programs at the associate, baccalaureate and graduate level; Armed Forces Classification Test Preparation; and a variety ofcollege credit, vocational, and aptitude testing. Educational counseling and academic advisement are available. A Learning Center is available at Fort Myer which provides a loan library of military publications, microcomputers for in-house personal use, software to assist in student loan and college searches, a microfiche college catalog collection, and numerous paper-based self-development materials. Retirement Services
Health Clinics Other health-care options exist throughout the National Capital Region. It is the sponsor’s responsibility to ensure family members are enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System before seekingmedical care at military facilities or through the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS). Enrollment is initiated through the ID cards⁄DEERS Enrollment Office, Building 202, Fort Myer. The phone number is (703) 696-3030. In most cases, appointments are required at Rader Clinic. Questions regarding any of the requirements should be directed toward theappropriate clinic all of which are open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Post Library staff are committed to the support of off-duty military and civilian education and are capable of providing special bibliographies upon request. Military Clothing Sales Store
Schools A birth certificate, proof ofvaccination and other medicalimmunizations are required forregistration. If transferring from another school, the student’s latest report card or a transfer form is required as well. Classes begin after Labor Day. Registration dates and requirements vary. The AAFES shoppettes serve as mini grocery stores, providing food and grocery items, as well as a limited selection of non-grocery items, like health and beauty aids, magazines and books. Package Beverage Stores Transportation
Bus Service Department of Defense buses shuttle from the Pentagon to major Department of Defense buildings for military and civilian employees. Military people must be in uniform or have their ID card to use DoD buses. Civilians must show their DoD buildingpasses. DoD bus passes and tickets are alsoaccepted. Retired military ID cards are not honored. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority provides bus and subway servicethroughout the metropolitan area. Call (202) 637-7000 for more information about fares, schedules and how to get around. Commuter trains and smaller bus lines are also part of the local transportation mix.
