While at Dahlgren, get ready to be active and be entertained! In addition to the many outdoor recreational opportunities that the Northern Neck of Virginia provides, you will find plenty to do for the whole family in the area, and at nearby locations. The Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department (‘‘MWR”) at NSF Dahlgren offers a wide range of recreational facilities and activities for active duty military, retired military, reservists on active duty, current and retired Department of Defense civilian employees (Civil Service and non-appropriated), family members in all of these categories and NSA South Potomac contractors and other authorized patrons. Activities range from opportunities to attend major sporting events, concerts and other events in the Washington, D.C. and the Metro Richmond areas to participating in a ceramic class or league bowling. Enjoy a game of golf or the latest-run movies!

MWR Administration

The MWR Director's office and the MWR Administrative Office are located in Building 237. Applications for employment are accepted here Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Full-time, part-time and flexible positions are routinely available.

Fitness
FitnessCenter⁄Gymnasium

The Fitness Center is located on Dahlgren Road and features a full-size gymnasium floor that is used for many activities such as basketball, volleyball, and dodge ball. The facility offers a state-of-the-art fitness center equipped with circuit training machines, free weights, benches and belts. In the cardio room you will be able to use top-of-the-line treadmills, cycles, elliptical machines, steppers and a treadclimber. There are two racquetball courts, a group exercise room and saunas in both the men's and women's locker rooms. In addition, there is an outdoor hockey rink⁄basketball court located adjacent to Building 962. This outdoor court is available on a first come, first served basis, or by reservation. The Fitness Center is open seven days per week. The MWR Fitness Director (540-653-2016) and Sports Coordinator (540-653-7341) also have offices at the Fitness Center.

Group Exercise
The Fitness Center offers a variety of classes six days a week, which includes spinning, step, toning and yoga. Please contact the Fitness Center for more information. You can find a schedule in The South Potomac Pilot, NSF Dahlgren's base newspaper, or at the Fitness Center.

Softball
There are two softball fields on base. The primary field (Duke Field) is located across the street from the Fitness Center. The second field (Fire House Field) is located beside the fire station on base. Use of these fields may be scheduled by contacting the Fitness Center. Co-ed and men's leagues are run through the MWR sports program in the spring and fall. Announcements on all sports leagues are posted in The South Potomac Pilot, NSF Dahlgren's base newspaper, or at the Fitness Center.

Soccer
The soccer field on base is located near the Main Gate and is used for leagues in the spring and the fall. Soccer leagues are run through the MWR sports program. Announcements on all sports leagues are posted in The South Potomac Pilot, NSF Dahlgren's base newspaper, or at the Fitness Center.

Flag Football
MWR offers a flag football league in the fall. Announcements on all sports leagues are posted in The South Potomac Pilot, NSF Dahlgren's base newspaper, or at the Fitness Center.

Racquetball
MWR offers two racquetball leagues during the year. Announcements on all sports leagues are posted in The South Potomac Pilot, NSF Dahlgren's base newspaper, or at the Fitness Center.

Basketball
MWR offers a basketball league in the winter. Announcements on all sports leagues are posted in The South Potomac Pilot, NSF Dahlgren's base newspaper, or at the Fitness Center.

5K Runs
MWR schedules four annual 5K fun runs on base with prizes awarded in both the men's and women's divisions. Schedules for all fun runs can be found in The South Potomac Pilot, NSF Dahlgren's base newspaper, or at the Fitness Center.

Tennis
There are six tennis courts on base. Two courts are located adjacent to Building 962, two are on Sampson Road and two are located behind JD's Training and Conference Center. The courts are for open play on a first come first served basis.

Karate
Isshinryu Karate lessons are offered several times during the year for children through adults, with classes for both beginner and advanced students. For more information on this program, please contact the staff at the Fitness Center.

Dance
Ballet, jazz and hip-hop dance classes are offered for children through adults at various times throughout the year. For more information on this program, please contact the Fitness Center.

Aquatics Center⁄Swimming Pool

Located on Jenkins Road, the year-round indoor aquatic facility includes a full-size swimming pool and a separate training pool. Pool passes may be purchased annually, monthly or daily at the Aquatic Center. MWR offers swimming lessons for all levels of expertise and ages, as well as aqua aerobics classes and a lap swim program. The Aquatic Center hosts local swim meets and an active swim team club for interested youth. The facility is available to rent for private parties and hosts special activities throughout the year. Men's and women's locker rooms and a children's water play area (open outdoors during warm weather only) are also available at the Aquatic Center.

Willow Oaks Golf Club (Golf Course)

Willow Oaks is the 9-hole golf course at NSF Dahlgren, and is located off Sampson Road. The golf club includes a driving range, pro shop, putting green and snack bar. Willow Oaks Golf Club is open from March - December with league play, group lessons and tournaments. Rental clubs are available for visitors.

Cannonball Lanes (Bowling Lanes)

Located in Building 135, the bowling alley is open seven days a week. This ten-lane bowling alley features all the newest AMF equipment, locker rental, resale bowling items, winter and summer leagues for both youth and adult, a variety of special events and open bowling. Cannonball Lanes is also the home of Mean Gene's Pizza and Burgers, a multi-choice food service provider. Lanes can be reserved for private parties and lessons are available upon request.

Information Tickets & Tours

The Information, Tickets & Tours (‘‘ITT”) office is located in Building 144 on Jenkins Road, across from the Navy Family Housing Office and Lincoln Military Housing Office (Building 142). Hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ITT offers discount tickets to attractions such as amusement parks, movie theaters, sightseeing destinations, ski resorts and sporting events. Occasional group outings for various activities are scheduled. Brochures highlighting local tourist destinations and maps of the area are available for customers to pick up, as well as information on the Armed Forces Vacation Club and MWR activities on base. Fax and notary public services are offered at ITT. Newcomers to NSF Dahlgren are encouraged to visit ITT for information on the area's activities and opportunities.

Liberty Program

The Liberty Program provides recreational activities year round for single or unaccompanied active duty military personnel, particularly ages 18-24. These activities include sporting events and cookouts at the barracks or group outings to recreational facilities and tourist destinations off base. The Liberty Program office is located in the barracks (Building 959, Room 237) and includes a computer lab with internet access and a movie lounge for viewing 8mm movies.

NSF Dahlgren Movie Theater

The NSF Dahlgren Movie Theater is located on Welsh Road and shows movies year-round on Friday evenings, Saturday afternoons and Saturday evenings. Sunday afternoon matinees are shown during the year with the exception of the summer months. Free Monday and Friday children's matinees are offered during the summer. The NSF Dahlgren Theater features recent movie releases and offers a concession stand with food and beverages. For updated movie listings, please call the movie line anytime at (540) 653-7336.

Rumors Recreation Center

Located across from the Parade Field, Rumors Recreation Center has pool tables, dartboards, a foosball table, multiple televisions, a dance floor and more. Special event information can be found in The South Potomac Pilot, NSF Dahlgren's base newspaper.

The River Range Bar and Lounge

Located within JD's Training and Conference Center, The River Range Bar and Lounge is open Monday - Friday, 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. Step in for a bit of social relaxation. Music, a large screen TV, a pool table and a dartboard await your arrival. The River Range Bar and Lounge is available for private functions by reservation. Craft Shop

Craftech is located on Jenkins Road across from the Aquatics Center and offers a variety of craft classes and custom creation options for customers. Classes include but are not limited to ceramics, framing and matting, stained glass, decorative painting and a variety of creative holiday gift items. Custom creations include full-color printing and laser engraving with your design or ours on coffee mugs, t-shirts, plaques, pen sets, tiles, mouse pads, and more. A full line of team awards and gift items are available also.

Craftech also offers a selection of ceramic, stained glass and framing supplies. Other craft supplies are available as special purchase items. Craftech is open Monday - Friday and the staff is always willing to work with our valued customers.

Leisure Services

Recreation Equipment Rental⁄Vehicle Storage

The Recreation Equipment Rental office is located behind Rumors, next to the Auto Hobby Shop. Camping equipment, canoes, kayaks, jon boats and other athletic gear are available to rent. The Recreation Equipment Rental office also offers 32 year-round vehicle storage spaces for housing residents only (military). Auto Skills Center

The Auto Skills Center is open Monday - Saturday, and is located directly behind Rumors Recreation Center. Customers may self-service their vehicles using the center's tools and equipment. Parts may be special ordered with same or next day delivery. Items carried in stock include oil, oil filters and air filters. Tire mounting and balancing service, oil change and A⁄C recharge are offered by our staff.

Library

The NSF Dahlgren Library is located next to the Aquatics Center on Jenkins Road and offers a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction works (hardback, paperback and audio) as well as periodicals, computers with internet access and a children's learning area. JD's Training & Conference Center

Located on Welsh Road near the NSF Dahlgren Movie Theater, JD's offers conference and training facilities to the Dahlgren base community, as well as a lounge and ballroom for hospitality services. The Training & Conference Center is available at no fee for official military and civilian training functions. Please call 653-7777 to make a reservation.

Community House

The Dowell Community House is available to rent through the MWR Administrative Office for private parties, receptions, meetings and other functions. With a park and pavilion area, your party may enjoy the outdoors as well. Please call 653-7777 to make a reservation.

Child and Youth Programs (CYP)
The Dahlgren Child and Youth Programs (CYP) consist of the Child Development Center, the Child Development Homes, and the Youth Activities Center. The CYP promotes quality developmental programs for children and operates in accordance with the Military Child Care Act of 1989, OPNAVINST 1700.9 Series, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Child Development Center

The Child Development Center (CDC) provides a full-time child development program for children six weeks to six years old. The Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum© is used to provide developmentally appropriate activities that nurture the whole child. The center is currently open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Drop-ins are welcome on a space-available basis. The CDC is accredited by NAEYC, holds DoD certification, and participates in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Child Development Homes

The Child Development Homes (CDH) currently provide the following services: full and part-time home based care, space available drop-in care, and limited shift care. Home care providers are trained, monitored and inspected to make sure that they meet the same high standards of care as the CDC. The CDH program holds DoD certification and participates in the USDA CACFP.

Youth Activities Center

The Youth Activities Center is located on Jenkins Road next to the swimming pool. Open Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m., the ‘‘YAC” offers a before and after school program during the school year, as well as a summer camp for youth ages 5 to 12. As an affiliate of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), the Youth Center participates in eight BGCA core programs. They include Triple Play (a fitness program), Smart Moves (education about peer pressure and social concerns), Keystone Club and Torch Club (organizations that work on making youth civically aware), Power Hour (a homework assistance program), Fine Arts and Photography programs that allow youth to compete nationally with other BGCA club members. In addition, the teen program operates on Wednesday evenings. The YAC also hosts youth dances and a variety of special events throughout the year. The youth at Dahlgren are encouraged to participate in the youth council that meets regularly todiscuss upcoming programs and activities.
