Armed Forces Day is May 17. Come see American heroes, helicopters, bands and much more at Fort Detrick’s Nallin Farm Pond. Events are scheduled to start at 10:30a.m.

Weightlifting Championship
An Olympic style weightlifting competition will be held May 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Odom Fitness Center, 1507 Porter St.
The competitive lifts are the ‘‘snatch” and the ‘‘clean and jerk.”
Awards will be given to the top three in each weight class (female and male) and the best lifter for each division.
The free event will be open to spectators.

21st Signal Brigade ball
The 21st Signal Brigade will hold its ball May 30. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. at the Eisenhower Inn and Conference Center in Gettysburg, Pa. The guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. Dennis Via, commander of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, N.J.
Pharmacy closure days
The Barquist Army health clinic pharmacy will be closed for training May 16 starting at noon.
The pharmacy will be closed all day May 19-23 for upgrades. During this time, the pharmacy will be unable to provide refills or civilian prescriptions. The pharmacy will only provide service for emergency medications prescribed by Barquist clinic providers.
The pharmacy will be closed May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. The pharmacy will resume normal business hours May 27.
‘‘Top 5 Excellence.gov” Award
The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council recently honored the U.S. Army’s Medical Communications for Combat Casualty Care program with the 2008 The top five winners exemplified programs that improved organizational performance by using information technology. Over the past year, MC4 expanded the use of its electronic medical recording systems to the Air Force, fielded an improved inpatient system and helped implement a new EMR best business practices initiative on the battlefield.
It is the program’s third consecutive year being named in the top 20 and first top five award.
Spring Research Festival
NCI-Frederick⁄Fort Detrick Spring Research Festival will be held May 14 and 15 in a large tent near Veterans Gate.
All posters will be presented on both days of the festival, 10 a.m. to 2:30p.m.
