Jon Cannon of the Jeopardy’s ‘‘Clue Crew'' prepares a segment aboard the base for an upcoming episode of the popular trivia game show.
‘‘What is Marine Corps Base Quantico?”
Answer: The Marine base Jeopardy’s ‘‘Clue Crew” visited May 7 to film video clues for the popular game show.
Jeopardy producer Brett Schneider and two of the five Clue Crew members – Kelly Miyahara and Jon Cannon – were on hand for the filming.
‘‘The Jeopardy Clue Crew’s job is to bring the questions to life.” Schneider said. ‘‘In order to do so, we try and position ourselves in locations relating to the topic or question.”
The crew made their way around various locations on base and asked questions that were Marine related. The locations cannot be disclosed due to the possibility of someone using the area to anticipate the questions.
This is the first time the crew has filmed here on base, but they have shot on lots of other bases.
‘‘From Parris Island to Okinawa, we have shot with Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines,” Schneider said.
Although the show has been to many military installations, the Clue Crew members themselves have only been to a few.
‘‘I have been on other military bases, but this is my first time on a Marine base,” said Cannon.
The show featuring the clues filmed aboard Quantico won’t air for at least a couple of months, according to Schneider.
Both Cannon and Miyahara have been clue crew members for three years, and they both were discovered during nationwide open auditions. Miyahara was chosen in Los Angeles, while Cannon was chosen in the New York area. Both of the clue crew members said they were very glad to be part of the show and to be at Quantico.
Jeopardy debuted in 1964 and had three separate runs. In 1984, it started its fourth and current run with host Alex Trebek. Since its 1984 debut, Jeopardy has won 27 Daytime Emmy Awards, more than any other game show. Eleven of those Emmys have been for ‘‘Outstanding Game Show⁄Audience Participation,” according to the official Jeopardy Web site. Trebek has won four Daytime Emmy Awards with Jeopardy for ‘‘Outstanding Game Show Host.”
The clue crew members really seemed to enjoy their trip as they got to hang out with Marines the entire day.
‘‘Out of all of the military branches, the Marines are defiantly the coolest,” Cannon said.
The crew ended their day by visiting the National Museum of the Marine Corps where they got to learn a little more about Corps’s long history and legacy.
‘‘I think it was a privilege to be here and see what Marines do,” Miyahara said. ‘‘I have friends who are Marines; now I know what they go through.”
