NCMA Meeting

The Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Contract Management Association will hear a presentation by Jim Hiles, vice president of contracts for Morgan Stanley, Monday, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Cedar Point Club. Kids Fishing Derby

The Mattapany Rod and Gun Club will host its eighth Annual Kids Fishing Derby June 7 at Pond #4 onboard Pax River. Registration is at 8 a.m., with the Derby itself to start at 9 a.m. Ending time is 1 p.m. This is a free event, open to the first 100 applicants between ages 5 and 15. All those under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and all participants must provide their own rod and reel, bait and stringer. Free refreshments and lunch will be provided. Clothes and Electronics Recycling

The Recycling Center reminds everyone that old textiles, clothing and leather goods can be recycled on base. The program has collected over 177,000 pounds of these items for sale and reuse since 2001. All clothing should be dry and placed in plastic bags. Pillows and mattresses are not acceptable.

In addition, personal electronic equipment such as computers, keyboards, stereo components, cameras and televisions up to 27-inch can also be recycled.

Both textiles and electronics can be brought to the Recycling Center on Whalen Road (Bldg. 604). Textiles, but not electronics, can be brought to satellite recycling sites on Shaw Road (Bldg. 600) Cedar Point Road (Bldg. 310) and across from the NEX⁄Commissary Complex.

Household batteries may also be recycled. Your building hazardous material or facility coordinator can provide assistance.

‘Through Deaf Eyes’

The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity will host a screening and discussion of the PBS documentary “Through Deaf Eyes.“ The event will take place today from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Building 1489 Room 102. This is a “brown bag“ event so feel free to bring your lunch.

“Through Deaf Eyes“ explores nearly 200 years of Deaf life in America and presents shared experiences of American history — family life, education, work, and community connections — from the perspective of deaf citizens. Actor Stockard Channing narrates the film which includes interviews with former Gallaudet University president, Dr. I. King Jordan, and actors Marlee Matlin and Bernard Bragg, as well as historians and deaf Americans with diverse views on language use, technology and identity.

All employees and supervisors (civilian, military, and contractors) are encouraged to attend this event.

CAC appointments

DoD Civil Service and contractor employees are required to have an appointment to be issued Common Access and ID Cards. Appointments may be made at the Gate 1 or 2 Pass and ID offices or PSD by logging on to the Web site https:⁄⁄es.cac.navy.mil.

Semper Fi golf

The Claude D. Alexander Memorial Golf Tournament will be held today at the Cedar Point Golf Course. Registration is 8 a.m., with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The $100 entry fee covers continental breakfast, green and cart fees, snacks at the turn and lunch. Proceeds benefit the Semper Fi Injured Marine Fund. Services at St. Nicholas Chapel

Church Services at St. Nicholas Chapel on station are:

Protestant — Sunday School, 9:30 a.m.; Sunday Worship, 11 a.m.; and Sunday Evening Bible Study, 5 p.m.

Catholic — Rosary at 7:30 and 9:30 a.m., Mass at 8 and 9:30 a.m., CCD at 11 a.m., Adult Study Hour at 11 a.m. (Sundays); 11:35 a.m., Mass (Monday-Thursday).

John Glenn Scholarship

The Marine Corps Aviation Association, John Glenn Squadron at Pax River is seeking donations for merit-based scholarships for students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Learn sign language at lunch

Bring a brown bag lunch to the Building 1489 atrium to learn and practice American Sign Language from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month. A NAVAIR on-site interpreter will provide the opportunity to practice vocabulary and phrases. No signing experience is necessary and the program is free. Contact the EEO office at 301-342-6671.
