The Hispanic Association of Dahlgren and Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren Laboratory will co-host their annual library event at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The National Hispanic Heritage theme this year is, ‘‘Getting Involved: Our Families, Our Community, Our Nation“. NSWC Dahlgren engineers and scientists will get involved and interact with children as they showcase Hispanic culture through a variety of activities.

‘‘This event is an opportunity for the Hispanic Association to reach out to the community to interact with children of all ages and backgrounds to teach them more about the Hispanic culture,“ said Hispanic Association Chairman Luis Rodriguez, an NSWC Dahlgren engineer. ‘‘Fun and exciting activities, games, crafts, food, a piÒata, and more are planned for this event.”

The Girl Scouts will also be engaging children at the library event. A Girl Scout Troop created posters of various Hispanic countries and the United States to display cultural similarities.

‘‘The Girl Scouts will interact with children on a one on one level, playing various games scheduled such as ‘Simon Says’ in Spanish, or sharing their knowledge learned,“ said Rodriguez. “One of the greatest benefits in participating in an event such as this is the opportunity to engage with the children in our community and to show them more about the richness of diversity that surrounds them.“
